  1. The 2017 TUFLOW release notes mention that input grid extents are checked when using the "Read GRID ==" command. If the extent is outside the 2D domain the grid is skipped to reduce simulation startup. I have noticed that for quadtree models with nesting, that inputs grids are processed for each refinement level even if some grids do not fall in the refinement region. For example, a quadtree model with base 10m grid size and one 5m refinement area using DEM tiles to set Zpts. Each tile in the DEM will be processed to the 5m refinement level (GRID_TILE_X.5m.xf4) even if that tile does not fall within any part of the 5m refinement region. Does this unnecessarily increase startup times by generating xf files that aren't needed?
  2. Historically TUFLOW has allowed multiple HT boundaries to be applied to the same cell. The water level used by TUFLOW is the sum of all HT boundaries. See the notes in table 7-4 (page 7-11) of the 2018-03 TUFLOW Manual.

    Hi, Would it be possible to enable export of the timeseries data via the TuPlot QGIS plug-in? Example usage would be, load tpc file with plugin, select events and 1D conduits of interest, use TuPlot to export the timeseries ordinates for the selected conduits only. This would reduce the need to delve into the CSV/EOF files manually for each event.
  4. The manual states in Section that: "The weir crest level and dimensions are specified within the additional attributes contained within a 1d_nwke layer...". This seems to imply that the absolute level of the weir crest can be specified as an attribute. In actuallity the weir crest is inferred by adding the EN2 attribute to the obvert of the B, R or W structure. The obvert itself is presumably inferred from the structure invert level plus the "Height_or_WF" attribute. If one reads the attribute description for EN2 it should be clear what is intended, however, I have recieved a model where the modeller had misinterpreted this value to be an absolute level. Since you are currently updating the manual, perhaps the current text of section could be changed to match Table 5-10.
  5. LiDAR and most other topographic data sets are discrete point measurements of elevation which are then interpolated to produce an estimate of elevation across a wider area. To use the channel bathymetry you will need to produce an interpolation of the channel bathymetry and overlay this on the DTM. If you create your interpolations as grids outside of TUFLOW, you can overlay the channel bathymetry using judicious use of the Read GRID commands in your tgc file. The last elevation assigned to a Z-point will always take precendence. If you were to first assign a value using the LiDAR data and then the bathymetry data you will have achieved what you desire.There are traps for new players with this approach of course. For example will your channel data and DTM match nicely at the borders of your channel dataset? If not you might like to use the MIN option of the Read GRID Zpts command to ensure that the Z-points only take on the value of the channel dataset where your channel is lower than the DTM. Alternatively, you can use the TUFLOW command Create TIN Zpts to create a TIN of your channel data which is then applied to the existing Zpt values. There is even an example of using this command in the TUFLOW manual which you could adapt to your situation.
  6. Hi Teegan, I did some further testing, the order of the scenarios is not important. If any of the variables used in the override file are not specified an error will occur; even if that variable is contained within commands that aren't intended to be used by the current simulation (i.e. within an If Scenario block for a different Scenario). My _TUFLOW_override.tcf looks something like this: If Scenario == M01 Output Folder == C:\TUFLOW\<<~s1~>>_results\<<~s2~>>\<<~s2~>>_<<~e1~>>_<<~e2~>> Else If Scenario == M02 Output Folder == C:\TUFLOW\<<~s1~>>_results\<<~s1~>>_<<~e1~>>_<<~e2~>> Else Output Folder == C:\TUFLOW\EXG_results\EXG_<<~e1~>>_<<~e2~>> End If If I try to execute a single simulation from the command prompt with only -s1 M02 set, I receive the following output: Trying to open (I) file T:\TUFLOW model\runs\_TUFLOW_OVERRIDE.tcf...OK. File Unit: 902 skipping scenario "M01" NoXY: ERROR 0015 - Variable "~S2~" not defined. Line: Output Folder == C:\TUFLOW\M02_results\<<~s2~>>\<<~s2~>>_<<~e1~>>_<<~e2~>> As you can see TUFLOW states ~s2~ is not defined and outputs the path contained within the M01 If statement. If I execute a simluation with -s1 M02 -s2 DUMMY then the simulation will launch correctly and TUFLOW will not produce an error.
  7. I have been utilising the TUFLOW override files to redirect model output to local hard drives. This works well for reading input files from network storage whilst large output data is written locally. However, I have had some issues using If Scenario and Else If Scenario commands within the override files (it appears that only the first If Scenario command is recognised). When referring to the manual, it states that "Nearly all .tcf commands can be placed within the override files with the exception of Read GIS and some other similar commands that involve processing of data layers". Is there a complete list of commands that are not supported or only partially supported?

  9. It has been a couple of months since this poll was started, is there any update on releasing the new manual?
  10. Currently, the 1d_nwk_N_check file uses node symbology to display the connection count at each node. However, the connection count is not one of the attributes/fields associated with the node. Therefore, it is difficult to search for nodes with specific connection counts when searching for unsnapped connections or other anomalies using the built in query functions of GIS applications. Can the connection count please be added as a data field to the nwk_N_check file in addition to the existing symbology?
  11. With regard to the hydraulics of the industrial buildings, I would also consider the fact that they often have large entrance ways to allow egress for trucks and other large vehicles. This means that the "permeability" of the building sides is quite different compared with say a bricks-and-mortar residential building. You might want to consider using THIN z-lines to map the walls of the industrial buildings (leaving openings for doorways) rather than blocking out the entire building.

  13. I answered "yes" but really I only use one of the links - table of contents. I have never been able to understand why there is a Contents page and then a Table of Contents, and then a Chapters page!! If it was easier to get straight to the Table of Contents without the need to scroll through so many pages it would be possible perhaps to remove the links from the cover.
